Well I can only speak for myself here - but working in an office environment certainly makes it more of a struggle to keep the old waistline in check (come on - I'm not alone here am I!). It's just normal isn't it? (here's me hoping!) You've probably gone from being a very busy person to spending the bulk of your time sitting. It's all part of the job. As our activity levels decrease and we move less - it's only a matter of time before we start to put on a few extra pounds - right?

So now we're agreed - sitting in an office all day and staying fit are just not compatible. With that said - I've compiled a list of 5 tips for staying HEALTHY at work – and the good news is! - it's a lot easier than you might think.

EAT HEALTHY

Maintaining a healthy diet during the day will benefit not only your weight and wellbeing, but also your energy and attitude! We've all heard the phrase "You are what you eat!" – no, you're not going to morph into some kind of alien burger! - but you get the gist. Since you are not providing your body with the nutrition it needs, you will tend to feel sluggish and tired during the day! So in short - maintaining a balanced diet is good for both the body and the mind.

WATER IS YOUR FRIEND - STAY HYDRATED!

It's an often repeated mantra - but we really should should strive to drink around 2 litres of liquid a day (ideally water - but we won't judge you if some of its tea and coffee!). Drinking water (yep I said water!) has so many advantages! It can increase your mood and energy, reduce your cravings for sugar, prevent headaches and other health risks. It's a simple truism - but keeping that water bottle topped up really will help improve your health.

GET UP - MOVE AROUND

I'll say it again - working in an office and being sedentary tend to go hand-in-hand - so it's important to get up and move around at least once a day! Don't wait for it to be collected, hand deliver that post down to reception. Go and introduce yourself to that new colleague. Whatever the excuse - just do it - it really is important for your mental and physical health that you take a break every now and then (what's that? your boss won't like it! No problem - get a new boss!)

INVEST IN A STANDING DESK

It's generally unavoidable that if you're working in an office - you're going to be mainly deskbound.  As such - it's important to get up and move around as much as possible. If you keep forgetting to move around (or you're annoying your colleagues by doing so!), investing in a Height Adjustable Desk will help both your work and your personal health! Alternating between sitting and standing will quite simply help you lose weight and boost your mental and physical wellbeing!
Now where can I get one of those healthy sit-stand desks? Oh - that'll be us then!

TRY AND FOCUS ON THE POSITIVE

Another plus for your psychological well-being! Think about which aspects of your work you really enjoy or that make you happy! It may be a fun conversation with a colleague, the pick-me-up coffee you enjoy mid-morning, or even the pleasant view from your office window - sometimes it's the simple things that make a difference. Remember - positive energy is infectious! Worrying about the negatives can leave you feeling overwhelmed, anxious, and trapped in spiral of negative thoughts Easier said than done I know - but just try not to worry.

So, there you have it - 5 simple tips for improving your office wellbeing. Happy working!
